Bathroom Organization

If you're lucky enough to have a "guest bathroom", one that isn't used by the family and one where you can always keep clean hand towels hanging for the guests, good for you. For most of us however, we have one or two bathrooms, and they both get a lot of use from the family members on a daily basis. Let's see how you can organize your bathroom so that it's guest ready too.

The one thing that most of us have too much of is lots of bottles of "stuff" sitting around the sink and countertop. Go through these and discard what you don't use on a daily basis, and what only has a drip left in it. Go buy two decorative baskets and have a "his" and "hers". One for his stuff, and one for her stuff. You could keep your toothpaste, hairspray, brush and comb, moisturizer, etc., in a basket that can be simply picked up and moved when guests come, and then put back when you're ready to use them again.

If you like to have magazines in the bathroom don't let them just pile up in a corner next to the toilet, get a nice magazine rack for them.

Next take a look at the inside of the shower. How moldy is that curtain? They cost around $4.00 - buy a new one. Look at the bottles in the shower, they tend to get left in the shower even when they're almost empty. Throw them out and try to streamline the number of bottles in the shower. If you don't have built in shelves around your shower get an organizer that hangs over your showerhead, or one on an extension pole you can put in the corner of the shower.

A cheap way to make your bathroom like new is with accessories. Buy a nice shower curtain with a matching rug. You can also get matching towels. If you have limited towel space you can buy a towel rack that hangs on the wall, they come in many different designs. With a nice wall towel rack you can make a display of beautifully colored towels - that you can also use too! Purchase a set of matching bathroom accessories, soap dish, toothbrush holder, cup, liquid soap dispenser.

I think you're going to love your bathroom!

Thank author of this post/commentWhen we got our new bathrooms done I did exactly this. I took out all the things that weren't used on a daily basis and put them away where they aren't seen instead of leaving them out for everyone else to see. I also took advantage of the space under the sinks. I took a basket that I bought at Walmart, actually they came with like 3 of them and they are cloth lined. I put my hair dryer, hairspray, brush etc. in it and hid it in the vanity. The medicine cabinet is quite big so I put toothbrushes, toothpaste etc in there so other people don't have to look at them. I like it when it looks crisp and clean in there instead of cluttered and messy.

Thank author of this post/commentOur 2nd bathroom is the bathroom that all of the kids use. It's the same bathroom that gets used when we have guests over so it does get a little bit tricky trying to keep it neat and clean. I like the idea of the baskets..I will try that because with three kids trying to share this bathroom and they each have their own accessories, etc. the mornings before school their bathroom looks atrocious!! I'm going to buy three baskets this weekend and try that out. There is so much room under the sink I was actually storing some towels in there. Now I know what to do with all that extra space!!

Thank author of this post/commentWhen I have guests who are staying overnight in my home, I usually will clean out my medicine cabinet and they can put their toiletries in there. I've never really had a problem with them not having any room.

Thank author of this post/commentIn this house I have an outlet in the knee space between the sinks. It's great. I plug the hairdryer in that outlet and then tuck in away behind the waste basket when I'm not using it.

Thank author of this post/commentIntroducing freestanding vanity units with a sink to your bathroom is a great way to clean up any clutter and be functional at the same time. If your bathroom is small take time in the initial planning stages, as this is one of the most important areas usually overlooked.

Thank author of this post/comment"Bathroom Organization"

That's brilliant description. For some bathrooms, space is at a premium and knocking out walls is not an option, but remodeling must be done.
