Built In Book Shelves

Thank author of this post/commentUpstairs in my home there is a kind of landing that is quite big and there are two wall length wooden built in book shelves. The previous home owner had them completely filled with books. We read quite often but not enough to fill them all up. They are a really neat feature for that space. We also have our computer set up there as well so it serves as a kind of office space. The shelves go from the floor to the ceiling and can hold a lot of books. The other reason I like them is that the kids can't knock them over if they were to climb them. They haven't attempted to do this yet but I am sure one day I will find my son at the top.

Thank author of this post/commentSounds awesome! I am a huge book nut and am always collecting more. Something like that would serve so much purpose for me! You're lucky :)

Thank author of this post/commentWhen we had our house built I wanted built-in bookcases, but the salesman talked us out of them. He said they wouldn't be a good selling point or increase the value of our house. Our next house will have them. I really want them. That and my antique bookcase that my Grandma gave to my mom and then to me.

Thank author of this post/commentOur bedrooms have them and I love them. There are 3 built in shelves with 3 very large dresser drawers below them. So we have built in shelves with built in dressers. I don't have any dressers sticking out in the bedrooms. We have a walk in closet in our bedroom so I stuck a small one in there for my husband. I like the shelves in the bedroom because they can hold knickknacks and other stuff and it isn't laying all over the bedroom. Normal stuff that people would have on their dressers I can put on the shelves. Very handy.

Thank author of this post/commentMy brother has a built in entertinament center that he did himself. He did an incredible job...when he gets the time I'm going to have him do one for our house.

Thank author of this post/commentMy parents had bookcases built in by the front door to replace other shelves that were always there and the built-ins are beautiful. Then they had bookcases built under the windows along two walls in the room at the end of the house and it's lovely.

The people we bought our first house from built an entertainment center. It was really nice. We took it out and put it in the garage. We had a big screen TV and couldn't use it. We should have tried to sell it, but DH chopped it up instead. He's weird like that.

Thank author of this post/commentI just read an article in Southern Living at home about built in bookcases. I wish I could remember which issue it was. It was a nice article too.

I read muchly and have tons of books that are old friends. In a house with some large windows, I have been building 'ceiling shelves' above the windows. They are appealing and aesthetically frame the windows. They look so good that I have started building them into windowless bedroom walls.
