| Wood door warped I have a barrister bookcase in the shop. One of the doors on it warped. The door frame is built like a picture frame with a lead glass insert and the top pc of frame warped. Bellied up. I tried clamping it out square and steaming it for roughly 10 15 mins and was unsuccessful. Any ideas on how to repair it?? |

Hello, here is a way to fix the door frame:Remove it from the cabinet and take the glass panel out, tap the joints apart and lay all four parts flat in close proximity to each other , the object now is to find out if any of the four pieces is not straight and flat. Warped rails or stiles may now be steamed for 30 min. and be ready to clamp it onto a flat surface and a straight edge (Both- at the same time)let sit overnight, dry fir the frame and lay flat for several days to see if the culprit is going to hold flat and straight. Please post results, we have more solutions if this one doesn't work. Thanks. Expert Page: Harry C. Johnson & Son Inc. Cabinetmakers Since 1906 |
