Sponge Paintingfurniture-workshop - DIY - Do It Yourself
Sponge Painting I recently tackled this project of sponge painting our guest bathroom. I used a deep orange color and then sponge painted a peanut butter color on top of it. It actually turned out really well and have gotten several compliments on it. This was the first time I had ever tried it and now my mother in law wants me to come over to her home and sponge paint her foyer area walls!!
My neighbor did this in her bathroom and it turned out really cute. She went with a palm tree theme and I think she painted the walls white and then sponged it with a few different colored greens. It definitely makes the room pop. It is a bathroom so it is not the biggest room in the house so it wasn't so bad to do. I am not sure I would want to tackle a large room doing this technique. It has to take some time I would think.
I have tried sponge painting in the past and will not ever do it again. I found it very time consuming and it seemed like the paint just ran together. I actually painted over it and kept it a solid color.
Robin - sorry that it did not turn out for you. This was quite a daunting project for me and was thrilled that it turned out. I guess I had beginner's luck!!
In our first house the original owners had sponged the water closet. I don't know what colors they used, but it was a REALLY dark pink. It was so dark in that WC that it was claustrophobic. We painted over it with a light strawberry ice cream pink and it was much more soothing. I haven't wanted to sponge paint myself, although I like the effect. It's just too much work.

I've been wanting to try sponge painting in one of the smaller rooms in my house. I'm not sure what colors of interior paint to choose though. I'm afraid the colors I choose would clash. I would never have thought of orange and peanut butter, but it sounds great! |
