• Page 1 (Original Post) • I don't leather furniture because I have pets and always thought that it would not be a good idea in case one of them jumped on the furniture and scratched or ripped it. Does anyone have leather furniture and pets? Have you ever had any problems with the pets and damaging the furniture? A friend of mine has this kind of furniture but I never thought of asking her. My parents had leather furniture when I was growing up but we didn't have any pets so it was never an issue. How do you fix any damage that has been caused? Is it expensive? Comment #1 Snowbird (1) from the land of cheese - Well i did once have a leather chair during the time I had my boston terrier. But i kept her nails clipped and smoothed over so it did not leave scratches on the leather if she ever laid on the chair. I would think it'd be more of a problem with cats? Or dogs who have an OCD problem with chewing on everything and anything! But i never had a problem. Comment #2 Eva from Wisteria Lane - I don't like leather furniture either because of our pets. We learned the hard way when we purchased a leather sofa a few years back and our dog chewed it up big time!! It was ruined. There went $3000 down the drain. :( Comment #3 Lee from North Pole - Yikes, $3, 000 ouch. It is hard with pets to have leather furniture I would think. My friend has 2 weiner dogs and she had leather furniture. It looks to be in perfect condition. I don't know if they put blankets down for the dogs or they just don't allow them to get on the furniture. They are such little cuddly dogs I don't know how she could keep them off. Oh gosh I bet a puppy would have a field day with leather furniture. I can't imagine walking in the door and seeing a brand new couch torn to bits. I am sure small holes could be repaired but anything else you probably wouldn't be able to fix. Comment #4 TexasGal from Dallas, Texas - My friends have a leather couch and a very large Bull something or other dog. Their leather couch looks fine and the dog is always on it. I don't know what their secret it. Comment #5 Jo Ellen (67.49.9.101) - Great question. We do have two cats and two leather chairs and yes there has been some scratching but enough that the chairs are ruined. In fact we are thinking of buying more leather, we just saw some beautiful Kathy Ireland leather furniture, worth looking into. Comment #6 Olga (24.71.223.142) - No way would I ever do this again. I have a chow chow, who after 2 years has decided to chew up the arm rest and the handles for a recliner of my sofa. I had to take the part of the couch to someone who does leather upholstery, I also had to find a piece of leather that matched my couch (it was about 90 dollars for half a hyde) the fixing itself was 180 dollars and the chewed part was replaced. If you're going to buy leather get a color that is easy to match, like black and start looking to someone that can repair it as well. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
