Play Rooms

Thank author of this post/commentI wasn't exactly sure where to put this but I figured game rooms and play rooms were close enough to post it here.

We converted our second living room into a play room. My kids don't have any toys in their bedrooms at all. It pretty much looks like toys r us in that room but it is all contained in one room. Because they are getting older and their toy collection keeps getting bigger I am now going to store some of them in a downstairs bedroom. We don't use it as a bedroom but that is what it is intended for. So I now rotate their toys. After they haven't played with certain ones for a while and then I bring them back out they think they have hit the jack pot and all these new toys have shown up. By giving them a play room that is next to the main living room they can play whenever they want and I can still keep my eye on them. We do keep it picked up pretty well but it does it messy sometimes and that is ok because that is why we have it. I would rather the play room be messy than have all those toys in my living room where I am tripping over them all the time. I like that I have room on the main floor of my house instead of making a play room in the basement or putting all their toys in the bedrooms. Being able to play with them and watch them while they play is worth sacrificing my second living room.

Thank author of this post/commentI really like the idea of having a play room for kids. That way they don't just scatter toys ALL OVER THE HOUSE, which could get really irritating. I know my mom hated it when we would play with stuff and never put it back and just expect her to pick after us. Do you have a theme for the room at all?

Thank author of this post/commentWe have a play room too and I am going to make what is supposed to be a bedroom on the first floor into a kind of game room when the kids are a little older. It will have a tv, games, video games etc. in there. I don't believe kids should have this kind of things in their bedrooms. I want to know what my kids are watching on tv/tapes and what kind of games they are playing. Just because I didn't buy or rent it for them doesn't mean they aren't going to borrow games from their friends. Oh and they won't have computers or telephones in their rooms either. I want to know who they are talking to and I want to monitor their computer activities. I had this stuff in my room as a kid but there is no way my kids will have it in theirs. For now the play room is serving its purpose. They can play in there and I can keep my eye on them.

Thank author of this post/commentWe don't have a playroom in our home but in order for my living room to not turn into a playroom I have many many storage areas located throughout. I have nice wicker baskets where we can quickly put toys in that are located under benches or baskets that have lids so you don't see the toys.

Thank author of this post/commentThis is a constant battle in my home. We have toys scattered throughout our home ALL THE TIME. I've bought those storage units, baskets, you name it and it always ends up on the floor rather than in the baskets. One of these days I'll get my house organized to the point where this doesn't happen anymore!!
