Can my property management company force me to take time off of work to meet wit My kitchen is in desperate need of repairs, and after calling my managment company and sending letters with pictures for months about a counter that is completely broken on three corners and has badly chipped tiles, a floor that is peeling up, and a wall in my pantry that is cracked and has exposed pipes, with them not ever responding, I filed a complaint with the city. They are finally kicking into gear, which is great, but I think in retribution for making the complaint they are trying to make the process as difficult as possible. I took an entire afternoon off of work to meet with one person who wanted to inspect the damage, and he didn't bother to show up or even call. I took time off again for an appointment with a different inspector who came by with a camera and took photos of everything and said the counter, floor, dishwasher and cabinets had to be replaced because they were beyond repair, and the wall needed to be fixed. A few days later I got a call that yet another inspection was needed because they weren't willing to spend the money on the replacements and wanted to see what could be repaired. I took a third afternoon off of work to meet with them. I've now set up appointments with people to come by to measure the floor for a replacement for tomorrow afternoon, and on Wednesday for the appliance repair. Both are coming just to look, and will need to set up further appointments to actually do the work. So that's at least four more afternoons I'll need off of work on top of the previous three. I received a 24 hour notice on my door over the weekend for repairs to be made between the hours of 9-5 today and tomorrow, and then a call this morning that someone would be coming by at noon to look at my counter and get measurements for tiles, and would then be returning later today or tomorrow. They didn't ask me if the time worked for me, and when I asked if someone from the management company was going to let them in, they said no, that I had to be there. I then convinced them
Ada, do you have a friend you could ask to help you out with this ? Also, I suggest that you write your property management company and say that you have taken time off work to meet with their contractors who have not arrived. It took so many hours of your time, and that equals so much in pay, so you will be deducting that amount from your rental at the end of the month. Time to get tough lady. Hope my advice kicks them into action.
In having a home office, it is very important that you have a well built area so that you can confidently work in there. Well if something breaks in the area, I think it is necessary to call or inform the property management company regarding this matter so that they can give you proper assistance in order to fix the broken area. Make sure that the furniture you put in the home office is also of good quality.

Thank you for the tips that before I reconstruct the old office owned by my parents. I should first consult or inform the property management company regarding this matter so that they can give me proper assistance in order to fix the broken area. That way I can save money and time in building new office. It would be a lot of help to start earlier for my new business career.
Move out and then hire a lawyer. This is basically property management at it's worst. No one should have to put up with that kind of treatment as a paying tenant and neither should you. Document all communication to build your case and take the landlord to court.
