| Hi there guys. I am very much interested in learning about some good tips on decorating. I am to move soon in another house and I terribly need some good tips and suggestions on what to decorate my home most especially my bedroom. I am not that used to getting things done myself and so I think it would be a little hard for me to do the decorating. Hope to hear from all of you soon. |

Upholstery can be tackled by homeowners, with a little direction. Some projects would obviously be too difficult to attempt, but there are a lot of jobs that a beginner can find success with. Pad seats, such as those found on most dining room chairs, are a great way to change the feeling and mood of your home. I recommend following an upholstery guide that gives you some good tips and instructions as you go. But don't be afraid of the challenge! It is a lot of fun to find exciting new fabrics, and feel the sense of accomplishment when you complete the job! Good Luck!Expert Page: Antique Furniture - How to Find it and Fix it! |
| I have to agree that we all take extra pain in designing our bedrooms because we spend most of our time at home there. Even in feng shui, the bedroom plays a great role in determining our luck. Even if we don't practice feng shui, it is worth noting that there should be harmony in colors in our bedroom design. Our furniture should also be coordinated in terms of colors, material and design. |
| Bedroom is the only place in your house where you can sit and relax. Before designing a bedroom it would be better if you have a theme in your mind. Go for vibrant and pleasant colors for the wall which will give you a sense of pleasantness and let your worries melt way.It would be better if you have big windows which will be nice to have an airy space with big furniture. |

Hi Kathy, I was wondering if you had any pointers as far as fabric choices. What type of fabric, in your opinion, is best quited to the wear and tear for a family dining chair? We have small children, so definitely any fabric chosen would have to withstand spilled milk, scooting around and maybe an occasional dropped Spaghetti-O.Also, what tools should I have on hand for the replacement of padded seat upholstering? |

Hi Sharon, There is a balance between visual and functional needs, and I think you can satisfy both with the right fabric. Because you are talking about dining chairs with a family, function is very important. Basically, you should stay away from cottons, as they tend to soak up anything and everything. Often times, cottons are cleanable, but that is another task to have to deal with. Synthetics repel stains better, and many are also very cleanable. Try to choose a design with some pattern or print to it, as solids will show every spot. If you have an upholstery shop nearby, go visit them and tell them what you are looking for. They should be able to show you several different fabrics that would be suitable for you. I often have customers come in asking the same questions, and many times I can help them find a remnant that not only works well for their project, but also saves them a lot of money as well. As far as the tools you will need, if you want to check out the ebook on my site, with the link above, it will answer that for you. There is even a bonus that comes with the book that deals with covering your own dining room chairs! You will find some great hints and shortcuts there. I hope this helps, and good luck with your project! You'll feel so proud when you do it yourself!! Expert Page: Antique Furniture - How to Find it and Fix it! |

Thanks Kathy, I appreciate your tips. I know doing projects yourself saves a lot of money but my biggest problem is finishing a project once I start it. I will check out your ebook on the chair reupholstery. What was the biggest challenge for you when you started your business? Was it learning the ins and outs or finding clients, or promoting your business? Do you have other ebooks dealing with other subjects regarding furniture? Maybe figuring out how to tell when a piece is an antique or not? |

Hi Sharon, You can save a lot of money by doing projects yourself. When I started my business, I had been doing a lot of the work already, as a hobby, when my kids were born. I was a high school teacher, and I was staying home to be with them while they were young. I found that my business grew steadily, even without advertising, because I took a lot of pride in my work, and my reputation spook for me. Before I knew it, I was booked for 8 months at a time, which solved the finding clients and promoting my business all at once. I never had trouble promoting; in fact, I stopped advertising 16 years ago, as I was booked for many months in advance, all year long. Right now, I don't have other ebooks dealing with furniture, or reupholstering, but this book has tips about determining when you have an antique or not. I hope to have more books in the future. On the website, you can sign up for a free mini course that may answer some of your questions. Good luck with your projects, and let me know if I can help you any more!
